Joshua “Josh” Grothe

Joshua has always been passionate about martial arts.
After graduating from high school, he fulfilled his long cherished wish to intensly train in Thailand and China. Traveling to the original location of Shaolin he intensified his studies of Kung Fu and Deng Feng.

In 2008, Joshua began to book his first filming assignments as stunt man, while exploring his second passion, the art of acting. He studied with Erric Morris and Larry Moss in Los Angeles and classical theater techniques with Joachim Stargard. As a result, he acted in several acclaimed theatre productions, such as Frank Wedekind’s “Frühlingserwachen” at the Kammerspiele of the “Deutsches Theater”.

However, it wasn’t until November 2013 that Josh would finally break into screen acting. In the role of SS Officer Konrad, he played in the Russian TV mini series THE OLD GUN directed by Kirill Belevich, alongside Thure Riefenstein and Fitz van Thom, as just one of the film’s five German-speaking leads.
Besides playing “tough guys”, Josh has a penchant for comedy and physical slapstick backed up by his years of stunt work. This quality is what landed him the leading role in the action comedy NOAH, directed by Daniel Rübesam in 2015 and in 2016, as secret agent in the international production TITANIUM WHITE, shot in Poland. Several productions followed such as Rübesam’s action horror short PANDORA, which won the “Best Action Short” award at the Atlanta Shortfest 2018, and in the same year, as Adjutant Thielicke in the international feature production T34 opposite Alexander Petrow and Vinzenz Kiefer.
In 2021, Josh played in his most prestigeous role, a mixture of action comedy and drama as the ectomorph called FunktIøn, alongside Keanu Reeves in Lana Wachowski’s Matrix sequel MATRIX RESURRECTIONS.
